Daniel Rouslin, Concertmaster

Daniel Rouslin did his undergraduate work in violin performance at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and completed his graduate work at the Universities of Chicago and Iowa where he received the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts in 1976. From 1973 to 1986 he served as first violinist of the award winning Delos String Quartet with which he toured on three continents and made a recording for Spectrum Records.

As a violin soloist, Daniel Rouslin has given recitals in Oregon, California, Wisconsin, Philadelphia, Chicago and a number of Middle Eastern countries for the U.S. State Department. Since 1986 Dr. Rouslin has been professor of violin and viola at Willamette University, violinist of Trio Northwest, and concertmaster of the Salem Chamber Orchestra.

As a member of the Willamette faculty he has taught a variety of music-related courses including Music Theory, Masterpieces of Chamber Music, String Methods, and courses he designed for the non-major such as the Art of Listening and Death in Western Classical Music.

In 1997 he founded the University Chamber Orchestra of which he was the music director for eight years. Dr. Rouslin joined the Portland-based chamber group, East West Continuo in 2003 with whom he has concertized extensively and made a CD. He also recently made a CD for Crystal Records.

Daniel Rouslin has played with the Portland Opera Orchestra and the Oregon Mozart Players. Summers he has performed in the Grand Teton, Aspen, and Ernest Bloch Music Festivals as well as the Oregon Bach Festival and the Oregon Festival of American Music.
