  • The season opens with former Oregon Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Amy Schwartz Moretti returning to Oregon for her Salem Chamber Orchestra debut!  Performances will take place on Saturday night at the Historic Elsinore Theatre, one of Salem’s best-loved cultural gems, and on Sunday afternoon at Western Oregon University’s Rice Auditorium.

  • Barber: Adagio for Strings
  • Tchaikovsky: Serenade for Strings in C Major, op. 48
  • Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Major, op. 15
  • Aspen Music Festival and Willamette University pianist Jean-David Coen performs Brahms’ monumental first piano concerto. This virtuoso showcase will be preceded with a special side-by-side performance featuring the string sections of the Salem Youth Symphony and Salem Chamber Orchestra.

  • Connie Fritz Memorial Concerto Competition Winner(s)
  • Willamette University Solo and Aria Competition Winner(s)
  • J.S. Bach: Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043
  • “Tubas can sing too!” But can Tubby convince his other friends in the orchestra? This concert will also showcase the winners of the SCO’s Connie Fritz Memorial Concerto Competition and the Willamette University Solo and Aria Competition.

  • Mozart: Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat Major, K. 297b
  • Fauré: Requiem in D minor, op. 48
  • The Willamette Master Chorus combines forces with the Salem Chamber Orchestra to perform one of the great masterpieces of the choral-orchestral repertoire.  Beforehand, four of the orchestra’s wind principals will be center stage as soloists in Mozart’s lively Sinfonia Concertante.

An Evening in Italy

  • Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 4 in A Major, op. 90 (“Italian”)
  • Rossini: Overture to La Gazza Ladra
  • Mascagni: Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana
  • Puccini: Selected Arias and Scenes
  • Salem Chamber Orchestra’s evening in Italy begins with Mendelssohn’s spirited “Italian” Symphony and concludes with a special tribute in honor of Puccini’s 150th birthday. It’s sure to be a night full of passion and drama!


In addition to these outstanding performances, the SCO will present two special events during the 2007-2008 Season.  The “Taking Flight” Gala, this year’s installment of the SCO’s annual summer fundraiser, will be Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Sun Quest Executive Jet Charter NW’s hanger at the Salem Airport beginning at 6:00 p.m. 

The second annual Connie Fritz Memorial Concerto Competition will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in Willamette University’s Hudson Hall.  Students through high school age from Marion and Polk counties will vie for prizes in four divisions by performing in front of a live audience.  The grand-prize winner will solo with the SCO at the annual “Gift of Music” Family Concert.
